Jehovah’s Witness Dating Rules

Some of us do go off, and date non-believers. This isn’t exactly banned, but it is quite discouraged. Most of the girlfriends I’ve had in my lifetime, have been non-Witnesses. As far back as I can remember, I’ve only had one Witness girlfriend in my entire life. Just recently, about 5 months ago really, I got out of my most recent relationship. It was with a non-Witness girl, but at first, it seemed that she had kept herself at such a high-standard, it was like she was Witness material! She was a beautiful girl, both on the outside and on the inside. I couldn’t help but be attracted to her.

Organizational structure of Jehovah’s Witnesses Jehovah’s Witnesses are organized hierarchically , in what the leadership calls a “theocratic organization”, reflecting their belief that it is God’s “visible organization” on earth. Traveling overseers appoint local elders and ministerial servants, and while branch offices may appoint regional committees for matters such as Kingdom Hall construction or disaster relief. Elders maintain general responsibility for congregational governance, setting meeting times, selecting speakers and conducting meetings, directing the public preaching work, and creating “judicial committees” to investigate and decide disciplinary action for cases involving sexual misconduct or doctrinal breaches.

BlockedUnblock FollowFollowing 21 year old coffee addicted college student — I write stuff no one reads. Short little excerpts of my life. From the age of 2—17 I lived my life trying to please everyone else but myself. Before becoming one of those weird kids, I can barely remember what it was like to celebrate my birthday or holidays of course at the age of 1, do you really remember anything?

But looking back at old photographs, I looked my happiest as a bright orange pumpkin in between my dad and my mom. My parents divorced when I was around the age of 4, not entirely due to my mom completely doing a and dropping all her beliefs of catholicism for the JW lifestyle, but I can guess that was part of the reason. I lived with my mom, 3 younger siblings, both grandparents, even great grandmother for awhile , and 3 uncles in one house. No easter egg hunts or fireworks on fourth of July or New Years.

We had to go the the kingdom hall what was known as our church twice a week for meetings and once a week for preaching you know, knocking on your door at 9 in the morning , as well as having our own bible study at home as a family and another bible study with someone older from the congregation to grow and learn individually.

Who are the Jehovah’s Witnesses and what are their beliefs? That was also the year that the organization split. Close scrutiny of their doctrinal position on such subjects as the deity of Christ, salvation, the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, and the atonement shows beyond a doubt that they do not hold to orthodox Christian positions on these subjects. This contradicts many Scriptures which clearly declare Jesus to be God John 1: This contradicts countless scriptures which declare salvation to be received by grace through faith John 3: First, they claim that the church has corrupted the Bible over the centuries; thus, they have re-translated the Bible into what they call the New World Translation.

How Can I Witness to Him? For the past year, he has been attending a small group Bible study with me and my friends from church. However, he still holds onto many of the beliefs he was raised with and in the last six weeks, his friends and family have influenced him to go back to the meetings at the Kingdom Hall. I am scared about what this religion will do to our relationship and I feel like I am losing the man I love. It is truly a spiritual battle. How can I witness to him about my faith and help him find the truth in Christ without arguing and destroying our relationship?

You are in a very difficult situation because your battle is not only with the beliefs he was raised under but the influence and pressure that his friends and family put on your relationship. In spite of the doubts he may have about this religion, you can be certain that the desire to have his relationship with his family restored was a strong motivating factor in his decision to seek reinstatement back into this religious organization.

Interfaith compromise between religious faiths is strongly discouraged and condemned. He must attend ALL of the meetings at the Kingdom Hall and if he misses one meeting, he must have a good reason.

I am mostly concerned about her losing her parents. Will she still have her parents if she leaves on her own or will that be worse then being disfellowshipped excommunicated? I am looking for a loophole. I know that is not the right thing to do, but she loves me and I love her. As for the articles I have read on your site, I have read them thoroughly and I like what you said in one of your articles: Is it possible to go to an elder to ask for his blessing on our relationship?

Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that the Bible highly discourages an interfaith marriage (1 Corinthians ). This is a logical thing, because JW beliefs are very different than Christendom. This is a logical thing, because JW beliefs are very different than Christendom.

No birthdays, Christmas, or any other holidays All the other kids are doing fun Thanksgiving drawings of Turkeys by tracing their hands. That looks like so much fun! None—not even my birthday. God says birthdays are bad. Having to go door-to-door preaching every Saturday and sometimes Sunday as well I barely got any sleep when I was a Witness. I commuted an hour and a half to work each way and worked long hours.

I needed the weekends to catch up on my sleep debt, but instead I had to get up at the crack of dawn to go out preaching. The elders, on the other hand, do have access to your performance records. If your performance lags on the job, your invitations for dinner and movies suddenly stop. You are constantly judged by everyone else, especially the elders. No sex before marriage Nothing.

This is because we do not steal, kill, bribe or join politics. As long as u do these things and your religion tells u it is right, then u are heading downhill just as the great crowd of false religion mentioned in the bible as BABylon the great all empires of false religion. Tell me why we will not be able to tell u the truth.

He however is a Jehovah Witness. I knew him before he was a witness, but because of circumstances in his life, he sought redemption in a congregation because he was lonely and lost. I was happy he was trying to find God, until I found out what this “religion” was really about.

A friend of mine recently wrote this thoughtful update on his life 1 and where he is at now that ten years has passed since he moved away and faded from the Witnesses. His mentally unstable JW ex-wife tried to get him DFed and sent out the elders to pursue him but they were unsuccessful. I know this man personally and can say he is a friendly, caring, generous person.

So anyway, here is how he is getting along in his own words: I reached that point at age 44 over 10 years ago after having been born and raised in the JW cult for 44 years. It had nothing to do with being kind, good as a person, or helping brother or sister older ones giving food, care in their homes, or rides to the store. So think about it: How else can you explain men being appointed as elders who continue as such for years as they perform WT functions well at the kingdom hall, yet they may have beat their wives, children, molested children, or otherwise have been really scumbags in their personalities- yet got away with it for years?

There IS no such thing [in the WT organization]. And who knows if that has ever happened? We are special based on having humanity and what we bring to the table in sharing peaceful relations with others based on sharing our love, life, freedom of thoughts and expressions in order to afford other people the freedom to have their thoughts and expressions. In fact, if you could there would be a lot more disfellowshipped each year than there is. There would also be a lot less Witnesses marrying outside the truth as they would not be Witnesses when they married. There was a talk at an assembly about 8 years ago, a district convention, and I am sure the main points were at all of them. But since you were only 7 or 8 year of age, you probably did not much relevance in this talk for yourself if you were there. It was certainly a fine tuned talk dealing with Witnesses and how they are represented by Paul’s words.

It talked about how we all were dead in our trespasses until we dedicated our lives to Jehovah. Anyone who has not been dedicated is still “dead”. Then the question was asked, do you want to date a dead person, a corpse? The question wasn’t there to be morbid, but was to open up your thinking ability.
